The following is a list of scholarships available through the Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars program. Students may be considered for any or all of these scholarships by completing our online application form. 

Unless otherwise stated, these scholarships can be used by any full-time student enrolled at any accredited 2-year or 4-year school, or any accredited vocational-technical school such as beauty school, auto mechanics, business, photography, etc. Storm Lake Charter School students who plan to further their education may apply when they have completed their Charter School program.

The online applications are automatically scored by a point system that is set by Scholarship America and reviewed by the Dollars for Scholars Awards Committee; both are done anonymously.

Chapter Scholarships

 

Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars Scholarships. Open to all students. Numerous scholarships will be awarded.

Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars Vocational-Technical Scholarship. Students must attend an accredited school that awards a certificate or diploma after completing a training program of not less than 9 months or more than 3 years. Does not include college transfer programs at a community college.

Anita Daniels Memorial Scholarship. Open to any student pursuing a career in a medical- related field.

Don and Anne Gallagher Memorial Scholarship. Open to all students. Applicant must have a good academic record, be active in school and community activities and have a strong desire to further his/her education. 3.0 GPA or higher. Open to all students with preference given to a student pursuing a career in education/teaching (preference given to elementary education). 

Bernice Kolb Memorial Scholarship. Open to all students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who are active in the community with preference given to first generation college attendees.

Central Bank Scholarship. Open to all students planning to major in finance or a business related study.  Preference given to students who have been active in making their community a better place.  

Deb Mortensen Family Scholarship. Open to Storm Lake Public senior.  Applicants should plan to work with preschool or elementary age children after graduation.   Further consideration will be given if the applicant has an interest in music, reading or writing.  

Floyd and Dorcas Kallmer Scholarship. Open to all students, but preference shall be given to graduating seniors who are active members of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, IA. 

Friends of Holli Safley Scholarship.  Open to any student who has participated in at least one SLHS music department ensemble and is planning to pursue a Music Education major. 

Gary Lalone Memorial Scholarship.  2 scholarships open to Storm Lake public students planning to major in a business related field.  Preference given to to a student who has participated in the high school track program and active in the community.                                              

ISG Scholarship. Open to all students, but preference will be given to students entering the following fields of study: engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, land surveying, engineering technology/drafting, construction management, geographic information systems (GIS), environmental science, interior design, urban planning, or geology.  

Joan Vilas Memorial Scholarship. High school graduate pursuing a degree in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, or related field.

K & G Digital 360. Open to any student planning to major in digital media, marketing, business or becoming an Entrepreneur.  Write a short essay about why you chose this field and what you plan to do with it in the future. 

Kenneth and June Burke Memorial Scholarship. Open to any student planning to pursue a degree in a business type major such as finance, banking, accounting, IT etc.  2 scholarships available.  

Kristen Kelley Zoucha Catholic Leaders Scholarship. Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Applicant must be a St. Mary's High School senior who has shown leadership skills with family, church, school, and community. In addition, applications must submit a short essay (100 to 150 words) that describes their background and concept of leadership. Preference given to applicants who are committing to a Catholic religious vocation or who are making career choices where their achievements will benefit their community and/or society as well as themselves.

Marjorie Troxel Fratzke Memorial Scholarship. Open to students pursuing a career in teaching.

Megan Bauer Memorial Scholarship.  Open to all students planning to pursue a degree in education. 

STARS Mentoring Program Scholarship. Open to all Storm Lake High School seniors who have participated in the Storm Lake STARS Mentoring Program.

Pat Fisher Memorial Scholarship. Open to all students. Applicant must be involved in school activities as well as volunteering in the community. Preference will be given to students looking to pursue a future working directly with youth (i.e. teacher, coach, youth recreation, etc.). A 500 word or less essay describing the applicant's community involvement and the impact it had on them must accompany application.

P.E.O. Scholarship. Open to all female seniors planning to attend a 4-year accredited university. Students are selected based on academic performance. Two scholarships available.

Porsch Family Scholarship.  3.0 GPA minimum. Open to all students graduating from Storm Lake High School with preference given to those planning on majoring in pharmacy.   Special consideration will be given to students with extenuating needs, non-Caucasian and first generation college attendees.   

Robert E. and Alice Mailliard Scholarship. Open to all students with preference given to premed or BSN applicants. If none, the scholarship can be awarded to an applicant pursuing a 4-year medical-related field. (Chiropractic medicine is not included in the definition of a medical-related degree for this purpose, however, students interested in pharmacy, speech pathology or physical therapy will be considered if there are no pre-med or nursing applicants.) 

Security Trust and Savings Bank Scholarship. Open to all students.  

Stalcup Agricultural Service Scholarship. Applicant must pursue a field of study at Iowa State University in Agricultural Business or Agronomy. 

Steve Tjaden Memorial Scholarship.  Open to any student pursuing a career in mental health or social work.  

Storm Lake Community District Administrative Team. Applicant must be a Storm Lake High School student who plans to pursue a degree in education.

Storm Lake Education Association Scholarship. 2.75 GPA required. Applicant must be a Storm Lake High School senior majoring in education or planning to teach and in 150-200 words, describe the effect the Storm Lake educational system has had on your life. 

Storm Lake Hy-Noon Kiwanis Scholarship. Applicant must plan to attend Buena Vista University or Iowa Central Community College.  Two scholarships available. 

Storm Lake Kiwanis Beavers Scholarship. Open to all students with preference given to students who have been active in the community.  One scholarship available. 

Storm Lake Rotary Scholarship. 3.0 minimum GPA. Two scholarships available (one for Storm Lake Public, one for Storm Lake St. Mary's) with preference given to students who have been active in the community. 

United Bank of Iowa Scholarship. 2.5 minimum GPA. Two scholarships available (one for Storm Lake Public, one for Storm Lake St. Mary's) with preference given to students entering a business, finance, accounting, or agriculture field of study. Additional preference given to students who families are customers of United Bank of Iowa. Children of United Bank of Iowa employees are ineligible for this scholarship.   

Warren VerPloeg Scholarship.  Awarded to first generation college attendees.  Applicants must submit a 100-150 word essay about what being a first generation student to attend college means to them.  5 scholarships awarded after the first semester of college is complete.
