Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars
Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars (WLDS) is a charitable non-profit organization founded in 1994. A Worcester educator, Edwin Hernandez, recognized the need to encourage the pursuit of higher education by Latino students and provide financial assistance.
In its 24-year history, the Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars has provided more than $434,300 to 845 Latino Students from Central Massachusetts. The foundation has earned affiliation with Scholarship America's Dollars for Scholars Program and has attracted over 100 Volunteer leaders.
Our Mission
Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars encourages post high school education and recognition of the importance education plays in the full development of human potential. In addition, WLDS works to develop community support and provide professional Latino role models.
Our Philosophy
WLDS believes that education is the cornerstone of a rewarding and fulfilling life. Latino students can achieve academic success with the active support of family and community. As a community, Latinos applaud educational achievement and rewards student's efforts, leadership, and accomplishments.
Our Achievements
WLDS has helped over 800 students attend colleges, universities, and professional schools. Additionally, WLDS has achieved community recognition and support. The greater Worcester business, professional, civic and academic communities have provided financial support, are actively engaged as selection committee members and are united in support of Latino education.
