BMC CLASS OF 1988 25TH REUNION - BMDFS FUNDRAISING SUCCESS!!!

The Brushton-Moira Class of 1988 celebrated their 25th reunion during the weekend of July 26th & 27th, 2013.  Before their reunion began, class members dedicated a memorial tree at BMC in remembrance of their classmates Stephen Black, Dwight St. Mary, Rob McGivney, Laurie McCarthy Dana, Denyl Dewey, and Paul Chapman. Father Looby from St. Mary's parish in Brushton led family and friends with a prayer service and blessed their memorial tree.  Superintendent Donna Andre and Principal Nenette Greeno also gave a tour of the school to share all of exciting changes that have taken place at BMC over the last 25 years.

On Saturday, July 27th, the Class of '88 entered a float in the Moira Heritage Day Parade.  After the parade, they continued their celebration by raising funds for the BMC Dollars for Scholars program. They sold raffle tickets for a chance to win a picture frame that was hand-crafted by John St. Mary using the wood from the old BMC high school gym bleachers. This limited edition picture frame also included $50 cash and $25 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets.  Additional frames were also available to be purchased for $50 each. Before the weekend was over, they sold over 400 raffle tickets and raised $1000 to help their hometown students achieve their educational goals. Funds raised for the BMC Dollars for Scholars program will also go towards existing scholarships setup in memory of Laurie McCarthy Dana and Dwight St. Mary.

On Saturday night, the Class of '88 hosted their reunion party at Titus Mountain Lodge in Malone, NY and entertainment was provided by DJ Big Daddy. Everyone had a great time catching up with one another and remembering their days at BMC. At the end of the night, Class President, Chantal (Cunningham) Belosic announced that Scott LaPage of Moira, NY was the lucky winner of their raffle. Chantal said she hopes to see future and present BMC Alumni create a new tradition of raising funds every year at Heritage Day for the BMC Dollars for Scholars program.

The FFA DFS Scholarship is an endowment set up in a partnership with the Brushton-Moira Chapter of Future Farmers of America. Applicants must be a FFA member and be involved in community service. Applicants must be going on to further education at college or trade school (consideration first given to those majoring in Ecology, Agriculture, Technical Education, or related field; secondary consideration may be given to those entering the field of education).

The William Dorey Scholarship has been established, to be given to a student pursuing a career in business.

Finally, the Lyon family has asked BMDFS to administer The Brooke Elizabeth Lyon Remembrance Scholarship, established last year as a lasting tribute to Booke who was tragically killed in an automobile accident. This scholarship is given to a graduating senior from BMC who plans a career in the human services field and has the qualities that Brooke exemplified: character, leadership, a zest for life and unwavering desire to help those in need.

BMDFS is both humbled and honored to receive these philanthropic investments that promote academic achievement and make it possible for our students to continue their academic dreams.
