The Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars chapter was founded February 5, 1985, under the name of Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Storm Lake. Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organization with an all-volunteer Board of Directors. This Board is comprised of representatives from business, education, administration, homemakers, parents and student representatives from Storm Lake Public and St. Mary's high schools.
Funded from local sources
Chapter scholarships are funded by the contributions of individuals or families, local organizations or businesses, and interest from Trust Funds. Scholarships awarded are intended to provide not only monies to graduating seniors from both Storm Lake high schools, but a community "pat on the back" as well. The intent has been to provide funds approximately equal to the first semester's book fees and to reach out to more than just the very top academic students. It is also encouraged that the recipients--someday, somewhere, sometime--return the favor by supporting this or other scholarship programs.
Sponsored scholarships are funded by local community service organizations, local businesses, and individuals who believe in encouraging and rewarding our youth. They utilize the program and scoring process as a vehicle for application and selection. Scholarships reward students for academic achievement along with school and community involvement, activities, and employment during the school year.
